Maryland Public TV http://www.mpt.org started sending out notices to Doctor Who fans who had enquired about their odd September schedule (skipping 23 Tom Baker stories). The memorable part of the message I received (which you can read in full at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/message/246 was Maryland Public TV claiming that "the BBC is considering terminating PBS' rights to air this series and awarding exclusive rights to the Sci-Fi Channel". According to MPT, while Doctor Who's status is in question, they can only air the 30 episodes (I'm assuming they meant stories) they have on hand.
It is important to note that Maryland Public TV is neither BBC Worldwide Americas nor are they Sci-Fi Channel. BBC Worldwide Americas has said nothing. Joey Reynolds of the American Who radio program checked with a Sr. VP in charge of programming at SciFi, who said: "It's news to me, and I'm the one with whom they would be negotiating, but if we were negotiating, I couldn't discuss it anyway..." Since neither party in a hypothetical negotiation confirm a negotiation, this must be classified as a rumor unless/until any additional evidence or sources appear. Rumors can later be proved accurate (Billie Piper in Doctor Who) or inaccurate (Bill Nighy is The Doctor), but without more information they are rumors.
Meanwhile, the digital revolution slowly continues in the US. Maryland Public TV's Frederick transmitter WFPT-DT is now on the air, which digital TV tuners will find on channel 28 (remapped to 62 on most tuners). Also, it seems that Iowa Public TV's digital simulcast of their analog lineup is on subchannel 2, not subchannel 3 - it's been corrected.
Canadian Doctor Who fans, Monday is when BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca moves Doctor Who from 1AM EDT to 2AM EDT and drops the 3:30AM repeat.
The 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie will air on the US Starz/Encore network
of movies again in October. Here are the confirmed broadcast dates:
Wednesday October 6 8AM EDT/PDT Encore Mystery
Saturday October 9 6:50AM EDT/PDT Encore Mystery
Sunday October 24 8:15AM EDT/PDT Encore Mystery
Friday October 29 6:10AM EDT/PDT Encore Mystery
Friday October 29 7:10AM EDT/PDT Encore MoviePlex

Friday October 29 7:20PM EDT/PDT Encore MoviePlex
Late Friday October 29 12:45AM EDT/PDT Encore Mystery

Keep an eye out for the early September American Who
http://www.americanwho.net broadcast. The topic (The Great Dalek
Debate!) sounds interesting, and host Joey is keeping the identity
of the guest secret.
The US/Canadian Region 1 DVD of Pyramids Of Mars coming out on
September 7th . Once again the Howard Da Silva introductions will be
included as an extra. Which brings us to the following two links
from the archives:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho/message/110 -
The Howard Da Silva story as detailed by TJ Lubinsky in 2001. Why
was an actor hired to do voice overs for a British TV show coming to
the US in 1978? Compiled shortly before the release of the first
batch of Doctor Who DVDs in the US in 2001, which included The
Robots Of Death.

Followup with TJ Lubinsky in February 2002 detailing the Howard Da
Silva intros used for The Ark In Space, which was released on DVD in
the US later that year.

Part One is titled simply Invasion, and currently only exists in black & white. I have heard conflicting stories that it either has or has not aired on ABC before. The rest of the story remains in color. This story has sometimes aired as a 5 part version omitting part one and renumbering the other episodes accordingly. The 3rd Doctor and Sarah arrive in London to find it deserted of people but occupied by Dinosaurs. U*N*I*T hasn't found an answer yet. Can the Doctor find the right questions?
